The Social Review Committee

The CHANCEN community is a student-centered community whereby members take part in some decision making. The Social Review Committee was created to avoid hardships faced by graduates.

In fact, members of the community who are in the repayment process can request a pause in their repayments if they experience severe financial difficulties but still earn an income. Applications are submitted anonymously. The Social Review Committee will then meet and review the application cases and make decisions together. The committee includes student representation and graduate representation.

In March 2020, on the day Rwanda locked down to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Social Review Committee in consultation with the CHANCEN Management  decided to offer all graduates a three month pause on repayments.

"The pandemic outbreak affected a lot of people. Some lost their jobs, while others faced a salary decrease. Putting in place the repayment waiver was very important as it helped graduates to manage any challenges that arose due to COVID-19."
